Environmental health challenges across Africa cannot be solved by technology alone—they require visionary leaders who can navigate complex political landscapes, mobilize communities, and drive systemic change. AFREHO’s Environmental Health Leadership program is designed to identify, train, and empower the next generation of environmental health leaders across the continent. We believe that strong leadership is the foundation upon which sustainable environmental health systems are built.

This program brings together experienced practitioners, emerging professionals, and policy makers through executive leadership academies, mentorship networks, and peer-learning exchanges. Participants gain practical skills in strategic planning, policy advocacy, resource mobilization, and multi-stakeholder engagement. The curriculum draws on best practices from leading global institutions while remaining deeply rooted in African contexts and realities.

Beyond individual development, the program strengthens institutional capacity within government ministries, regulatory bodies, and professional associations. We work with partner organizations to develop leadership pipelines, establish ethical governance frameworks, and create enabling environments where environmental health professionals can thrive and effectively serve their communities.
